From University of Rochester Athletics

University of Rochester junior Alex Veech of the women's swimming and diving team competed on Friday morning at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Veech was 19th in a field of 31 swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke event, posting a time of 1:04.55 in the morning preliminaries.  She narrowly missed the top-16 cut for All-American honors, swimming just under .5 seconds slower than the #16 swimmer.

The junior is UR's 100 breaststroke record holder, posting a time of 1:03.29 at the UAA Championships last month.  That time earned her a runner-up finish in the event and All-UAA honors.  2016 is the second NCAA appearance for Veech as she previously qualified in the 100 breaststroke and on the 200 and 400 medley relay in her freshman year back in 2013-14, helping UR to a tie for 20th finish at the championships.

On Saturday's final day of competition, Veech also participated in the 200 yard breaststroke event. There, she placed 29th of 33 swimmers, posting a time of 2:24.79.
