Bears Finish Seventh at NCAA Championships

The Washington University in St. Louis women's swimming & diving team finished seventh at the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The WashU women finished seventh with 146 points, while the men scored 161 points to place eighth. It marks the fifth time in school history that both teams posted top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, and the second year in a row. Emory University won the women's title with 560 team points, while Denison University was the men's team champion with 455.5 points.

After breaking the school record in the women's 200 backstroke prelims, sophomore Nicole Zanolli took another two-tenths of a second off the time in the finals. She finished sixth overall with a time of 2:00.03. Senior Katie Anderson also swam faster than her previous school-record time during the prelims (2:01.45) before earning All-America Honorable Mention accolades with a 13th-place finish in 2:01.70.

The women's 400-free relay team of junior MariMac Collins, senior Kristalyn McAfee, Zanolli and freshman Lauren Sapp placed seventh with a time of 3:27.00. 

Senior Sophie Gan added All-America Honorable Mention honors for the WashU women in the 200 breaststroke, placing 15th in 2:20.96.

McAfee swam a season-best time of 51.98 to finish 30th in the women's 100 free, while Collins (52.20) and Sapp were 37th and 40th, respectively.
