Seniors Reed Dalton and Kristalyn McAfee of the Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming and diving team were named to the 2016 Academic All-America Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dalton, a first-team honoree, is the second individual in men's swimming and diving history to earn multiple Academic All-America honors after earning third-team honors a year ago. McAfee, a second-team selection, is the first individual in women's history to earn multiple Academic All-America accolades after picking up third team honor a year ago.

Dalton won his second-consecutive national title after swimming a season-best time of 47.22 to win the 100 butterfly by a half-second. He finished his career with four top-four finishes in the event, placing fourth as a freshman and sophomore before winning his consecutive national titles. At this year's NCAA Championships, Dalton added All-America finishes in the 200-medley relay, 200-free relay and 400-free relay, along with the 200 butterfly.

He finished his career as a 15-time All-American and a six-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion, while holding school records in both the 100 and 200 butterfly. A two-time Academic All-District and three-time Academic all-UAA honoree, Dalton graduated with a 3.52 GPA while majoring in systems science & engineering.

"This as a great honor for Reed. He was an excellent leader for this program and always did what was best for our team," said WashU head coach Brad Shively. "His academic and athletic successes are surpassed only by his dedication to WashU Swimming. He obviously had a tremendous swimming career, but it is really fitting to see him once again rewarded for his efforts in the classroom."

McAfee earned All-America honors as a member of the 400-free and 800-free relays that both finished seventh at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship. She added All-America honorable mention honors in the 200-free relay (10th) and the 200 free (13th).

McAfee is a nine-time All-American and 10-time Honorable-Mention All-American selection, and is a 16-time all-UAA honoree. She is also a two-time Academic All-District and three-time Academic all-UAA and CSCAA Scholar All-America First-Team honoree. McAfee graduated with a 3.71 GPA while majoring in chemical engineering.

"I am very proud of Kristalyn for balancing what she did in the classroom with what she accomplished in the water. She is a very committed young woman, and I am so happy to see all of her hard work pay off," Shively said. "Kristalyn is truly one of a kind, and it was such a privilege that I was able to coach her for the past four seasons. Because of her work-ethic and commitment to excellence, she will no doubt be just as successful in the next phase of her life as well."
