Suhan Mestha and Caitlyn VonFeldt Record NCAA ‘B’ Cut Times For Spartans During Second Day of Wooster Invitational

Case Western University junior Suhan Mestha and freshman Caitlyn VonFeldt each recorded NCAA 'B' cut times in the 100-yard backstroke, while Mestha's time set a new school record in the event. In addition, the women's 200-yard medley relay team of junior Alli Drohosky, Mestha, sophomore Monica Khare and VonFeldt broke the school record in the event during the second day of competition at the Wooster Invitational.

The women have scored 1,273.5 points through the two days to lead second-place Gannon (849) and third place Wooster (786).

Mestha paced the squad in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the event with a 'B' cut time and new school record time of 56.24. It was her second 'B' cut of the meet. Her time bested the previous school record of 56.99 set by Mestha in 2016 at the UAA Championships. VonFeldt finished right behind Mestha with a 'B' cut time of 56.42, while junior Bhavya Kumaran placed sixth with a time of 1:00.07.

The women's 200-yard medley relay team won the event with a school-record time of 1:46.06. It bested the previous school record of 1:47.45 set back in 2012. In addition, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Mestha, sophomore Vanya Ruppart, sophomore Olivia Picchione and junior Kelsey Holmberg finished first in the event with a time of 7:49.62.

The Spartan women were also particularly strong in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing with four 'A' final finishers. The 400-yard IM 'A' final finishers were Olivia Picchione (third, 4:45.29), sophomore Sarah Taekman (fifth, 4:49.99), sophomore Aleah Hixenbaugh (sixth, 4:49.26 in the prelim) and sophomore Julia Ver Voort (seventh, 4:48.25 in the prelim).

Other 'A' final finishers for the Spartan women on Friday included Khare (fifth, 59.09 in the prelim) and senior Inez Moore (sixth, 59.88) in the 100-yard butterfly, Ruppart (third, 1:55.88) in the 200-yard freestyle) and sophomore Alexa Simoneau (fifth, 1:07.80) and Drohosky (seventh, 1:07.54 in the prelim) in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Senior Brooke Hortness finished third in the women's one-meter dive with a score of 342.95.
