Becca Selznick Breaks Rochester 500 Free Record At UAA Championships

Junior Becca Selznick swam a school record in the 500 freestyle, highlighting the preliminary heats of day two of competition at the UAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday morning at Emory University.
 
Selznick swam a time of 5:06.92, breaking Jennifer Enos' school mark of 5:08.08 from December of 2013 to qualify for the 'B' final in the event.  Her time had her 15th in the field after the morning heats. In the evening finals, she was timed in 5:08.14 and finished 15th.
 
The junior was also on UR's 200 freestyle relay which posted the 8th fastest time of the preliminaries.  Selznick swam along with Sofia Guarnieri, Caitlynn Weeden and Erica Hughes to touch in 1:39.15. At night, that quartet reached the wall in 1:38.29 and finished seventh.
 
UR's 'B' relay in the event was 15th after prelims with a time of 1:43.07. At night, they were 15th as well (1:43.25). That prelim team was made up of Amina N'Gambwa, Julia Herman, Monica Jackson and Lilly Kossoff. The finals B relay was Shannon Kearney, Kossoff, Sydney Shannon, and Guarnieri.
 
Rochester's best finisher in the 200 IM event was first-year swimmer N'Gambwa who placed 26th, just missing finals in a time of 2:12.09.  In the 50 freestyle, Hughes clocked in at 24.85 seconds, good for 30th place.

The 400 medley relay was sixth overall (3:55.56), comprised of Hughes, Jackson, Shannon Cahalan, and Weeden. The B relay was timed in 4:01,75 (Kelsey Bartlett, Guarnieri, Anna Cook, N'Gambwa).
