Rochester Ends Play at NYS Championships

ITHACA, NY- The University of Rochester had three players still alive in the New York State Division III Tournament entering Saturday's play at Ithaca College, with all three dropping decisions on Day 2, eliminating them from competition.
 
All three players, senior Janice Zhao, sophomore Molly Goodman and freshman Lauren Zickar lost in their respective quarterfinal rounds.  Zhao played in the 2nd singles bracket, Goodman in the 3rd singles and Zickar in the 4th singles tournament.
 
Zhao lost by a 6-4, 6-1 score to Allison Wang of NYU, the brackets top seed.
 
Goodman, the #4 seed in her bracket fell to RIT's Sara Bjork.  Bjork would take the first set 6-4 before Goodman responded with a 6-4 win in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker which the RIT player would win 10-1.
 
In the 4th singles, Zickar was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Skidmore's Rachel Plevinsky, the bracket's fourth seeded player.
 
The NYS Championships end the fall portion of the schedule for the Yellowjackets with the winter/spring starting up in mid February.
