Carnegie Mellon Named ITA All-Academic Team; Seven Named Scholar-Athletes

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the fifth straight season and 12th time in the last 13 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, seven players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above and the women's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.55 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, senior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View), juniors Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), sophomores Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and freshmen Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) were named Scholar Athletes.   

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
