Two Tartans Advance to ITA Southeast Regional Singles Semifinals

Seniors Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./S t. Francis) and Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) each advanced to the singles semifinals of the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday, September 21 with straight set victories.

In the quarterfinals, Rashke defeated senior Elaine Baik of Johns Hopkins University by a 6-3, 6-1 score while Pratt won her match 6-2, 6-4 over freshman Megumi Chen from Johns Hopkins.

To reach the quarterfinals, Rashke topped Shelby Harris of University of Mary Washington 6-4, 6-2 before Pratt finished off Sara Finger of Muhlenberg College 6-3, 6-0.

Two other Tartans made the round of 16 in sophomore Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont). Sidell fell to Johns Hopkins junior Sydney Lehman 6-2, 6-2 as Torres forced a third set against Baik but couldn't finish for the win as the final score was 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in favor of Baik.

Rashke, who is unseeded for the tournament, will now face her third seeded opponent of the tournament in seven seed sophomore Ashnaa Rao of Johns Hopkins.

Pratt, seeded second, will face unseeded sophomore Jody Law of Johns Hopkins in the semifinal.

Not to be outdone was the doubles pair of juniors Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) who reached the semifinals with an 8-4 quarterfinals win over Michelle Fleenor and Allison Hupalo of Washington and Lee University Sunday morning. In their semifinals match, the junior pair fell behind 5-2 before making it 5-4 but the fifth-seed pair of Meghan Buell and Brooke Donnelly, also from Washington and Lee, pulled out three straight points to win 8-4.
