From Emory University Athletics
Facing Division I and NAIA competition during the weekend,
Emory Women's Tennis players combined to go 15-4 in singles
matches, and 9-5 in doubles contests at the Georgia Southern Invite
in Statesboro, Georgia.
Emory junior Beatrice Rosen and
sophomore Melissa Goodman teamed up to win
the main doubles draw, claiming victories in each of their four
matches during the weekend. Freshman Anna
Fuhr and sophomore Katarina
Su finished fourth in the draw, while
sophomore Michelle Satterfield and
freshman Bridget Harding were the runners-up
in the consolation draw. Competing in the second doubles
draw, junior Marissa Levine and
freshman Julie Fowler paired up to go 4-1 in
matches during the weekend as well.
Emory recorded two of the top-three finishes in the top
singles draw at the tournament. Su earned a pair of 6-1, 6-4
victories over Greer Ransom of Presbyterian and Kamelia Dimitrova
of Savannah State, before falling to Georgia Southern's Jordana
Klein in the championship match to finish in second place.
Rosen took home third place with a 1-1 record during the
weekend.
In the 2A singles draw, Emory Fowler and Harding each reached
the finals, and wrapped up their weekends with victories.
Fowler bested Mary Phillips Smith of Georgia Southern, 6-3, 6-3,
while Harding earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Georgia Southern's Fran
Norregaard. Fuhr won the 2B singles draw
with wins in all three of her singles matches, including a 6-4, 6-4
win over Carolina Viteri of the Savannah College of Art &
Design in the championship match of the draw.
Also in singles action, Levine won all three of her matches
in the third singles draw, and Goodman finished seventh in the 1B
singles draw.
Next up for the Eagles will be the USTA/ITA Small College
Nationals at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina,
from Thursday, October 9th through
Sunday, October 12th. After
qualifying during the ITA South Regionals, Beatrice Rosen will be
competing in the singles draw, while Katarina Su and Anna Fuhr will
team up in the doubles competition.
