The top-ranked Emory University women's tennis team is set to make its ninth straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals and the 26th overall in program history after knocking off 15th-ranked Washington & Lee, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon in Lexington, VA.
The quarterfinals are set to begin on Monday, May 23rd and will be held at Stowe Stadium on the campus of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Emory's opponent for its quarterfinal match will be Washington University who advanced to the round of eight on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Sewanee. The Eagles are 2-0 this season against the Bears including a 7-2 victory over them in the UAA Championship on April 24th.
For the second consecutive day, the Eagles (25-5) got off to fast start by sweeping all three doubles matches. Junior Katarina Su and sophomore Bridget Harding breezed past the Generals' Rachel Hicks and Michelle Fleenor in second doubles, winning by an 8-0 score. Juniors Michelle Satterfield and Paula Castro soon followed with an 8-3 decision in the third doubles match and sophomore Anna Fuhr and senior Madison Gordon closed out doubles play, edging W&L's Tessa Hill and Brooke Donnelly 8-5 on court no.1.
Emory picked up the match victory by claiming singles wins in the bottom two singles matches. Su blanked Washington & Lee's Emily Kochard 6-0, 6-0 for sixth singles point and Gordon winning her 20th straight successful decision, triumphing 6-0, 6-1 for the point at fifth singles.
At the conclusion of the match, Emory was leading in three of the four remaining match. Satterfield 6-2, 4-2 at second singles, senior Beatrice Rosen 6-2, 3-2 in third singles and Castro 6-1, 5-2 at fourth singles. Harding was trailing the Generals' Donnelly 6-3, 1-0 at first singles when play was halted.

Emory is now 14-0 all-time vs. Washington & Lee in the NCAA tournament including a 5-0 record when the teams have met in the third round…The Eagles improve to 75-33 in the NCAA tournament with a 58-11 mark under Head Coach Amy Bryant…The 25 wins this season are the second most ever in singles year, trailing only the 2014 National Championship team that finished the year at 28-2.
