NYU Completes Play at Vassar Scramble

The New York University women's tennis team completed play at the Vassar College Invitational on Sunday, September 20, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Facing Vassar, Connectciut College and SUNY New Paltz, NYU went 13-5 on the day to close out the tournament with a 35-11 record. The Violets went 8-3 in singles play and 6-2 in doubles play on the final day of competition. 

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior Carmen Lai and junior and Laila El Dessouki went 3-0 on Sunday. Both players won a singles matches, and as a pair, won both of their doubles matches. Lai and El Dessouki each finish the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record 

Vanessa Scott and Alice McGinty also finished the tournament with undefeated records. The freshmen won doubles matches and produced a singles win on the second day of competition and finished with identical 6-0 records this weekend. 

- The final four singles victories Sunday were earned by senior Martina Belloni, sophomore Nicole Schnabel, and freshmen Ayesha Das and Flyora Shiyanova.

- Seniors Madeline King and Jazmin Colling earned doubles wins. King, partnered with Schnabel, defeated New Paltz's Liz Palmer and Maryann Badura 8-1, while Colling, partnered with Das, defeated New Paltz's Allie Starke and Lindsay Haley 8-3.
