Chicago Opens Action at ITA Regional

The University of Chicago women's tennis team racked up 18 victories on the opening day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Friday.

The Maroons posted a singles record of 11-2 on the day as six players remain alive in the main draw. Three UChicago players were given first-round byes and ended up winning their one match of the day – No. 2-seed sophomore Ariana Iranpour, No. 10-seed freshman Rachel Kim and No. 17-seed freshman Kaela Bynoe. Junior Tiffany Chen, senior Lucy Tang and freshman Kat Stevanovich all went 2-0 to advance to the round of 32. Sophomore Courtney Warren and freshman Adrienne Travis both went 1-1.

In doubles action, UChicago tallied a 7-1 record. Three of the four doubles teams were victorious in both their morning-session matches – No. 6-seed Bynoe/Kim, No. 7-seed Iranpour/Warren and Chen/Tang. Stevanovich/Travis won the opening-round match and went 1-1.
