Maroons Make It Four In A Row With Win Over Whitman, 8-1

From University of Chicago Athletics

In its first match of the spring break trip, the University of Chicago women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Whitman College on Sunday.

The No. 14-ranked Maroons (5-2 record) won their fourth-straight match, while the No. 25-ranked Missionaries dropped to 9-7 on the season.

UChicago burned through doubles quickly, winning all three bouts without surrendering more than three games in any of the matches. In singles, Whitman made things close in the top two spots and forced third sets. But sophomore Ariana Iranpour and freshman Rachel Kim held sway in the third sets to get victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Maroons went on to take three of the remaining four singles matches handily in straight sets.

Multiple winners on the day included Iranpour, Kim, senior Lucy Tang and junior Tiffany Chen.

"Overall, I'm very happy with who we played today considering it was our first match outdoors this season," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "We definitely didn't play our best, but we knew to expect that coming in. Today's match, combined with a good practice tomorrow, should get us feeling good about the showdown with Tufts on Tuesday."
