Judges Bounce Back With 9-0 Win at Cal Lutheran

The 28th-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on their annual California trip and 3-1 overall on Thursday evening as the Judges defeated Cal Lutheran University, 9-0. The Regals fell to 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges lost just five games across the three doubles matches to take the lead. Sophomores Michele Lehat (Great Neck , N.Y. / John L. Miller Great Neck North) and Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Academy of Allied Health and Science) won eight-straight games at No. 3.
  • Rookie Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash. / Laurel Springs Prep) lost just four games in her two matches. She was an 8-2 winner with sophomore Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) at No. 1 doubles and a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles.
  • Leavitt added a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 3 singles.
  • Sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) had the most work on the day. She paired with classmate Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, then needed a tiebreaker in the second set to finish off her No. 2 singles opponent, 6-0, 7-6.
  • He won her first set, 6-3, then saw her opponent retire between sets.
  • Sophomore Ariana Ishaq (Houston, Texas / Carnegie Vanguard) and rookie Sarah Greisman(Weston, Conn. / Weston) made their season debuts a success. Ishaq won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, while Griesman took a 6-2, 6-1, decision at No. 6.
