Brandeis Teams, 16 Individuals Earn ITA Academic Honors

From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis University tennis teams placed 16 individuals on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete teams for 2015-16, while both teams earned the ITA’s All-Academic Team Award.

The Brandeis tennis teams were ranked among the ITA’s top 40 in Division III all season long this year, with the women finishing 28th and the men 30th in head coach Ben Lamanna’s 12th season at the helm. The Brandeis women placed nine of their 11 members on the ITA list en route to the All-Academic Team honors, while the men had seven of their 14 members honored for their efforts in the classroom. It’s the second-straight team honor for the women.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The nine Brandeis women honored by the ITA are recent graduates Sarita Biswas, Emily Eska, Hannah Marion and Maya Vasser; rising juniors Charlotte Aaron and Haley Cohen; and rising sophomores Keren Khromchenko, Olivia Leavitt and Michele Lehat.

Earning honors for the Brandeis men were recent graduate Danny Lubarsky; rising seniors Michael Arguello, Jeffrey Cherkin and Brian Granoff; rising junior Eric Goldberg; and rising sophomores Zachary Cihlar and Tyler Ng.
