Spartans Earn 6-3 Win Over DePauw on Final Day of Midwest Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team claimed a 6-3 win over 31st-ranked DePauw University at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday.

With the win, the Spartans improved to 14-3 overall on the season, and have now won seven matches against nationally-ranked opponents. DePauw dropped to 9-5 on the year with the loss.

CWRU started off the day strong, taking two of the three doubles matches to open up a 2-1 advantage over DePauw. Picking up doubles victories were the pairings of junior Nithya Kanagasegar and sophomore Jessica Liu, who defeated DePauw's Maddie Lee and Gretchen Wilder 8-4 in the first doubles match, and junior Nina Cepeda and freshman Katrin Gurvich, who picked up a 9-7 win at third doubles over Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder. The Spartans lone loss came in the second match, where junior Peyton Young and freshman Kendal Holladay suffered a 9-8 (8-6) defeat to Alyssa Senevirante and Meredith Breda.

The Spartans went on to win four of the next six singles matches. Kanagasegar earned a 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 10-8 victory over Lee at first singles, with Holladay claiming a 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 victory over Gretchen Wilder at second singles. In the third singles match, Liu picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ali Bush and Cepeda defeated Colleen Morris 6-3, 6-0 in the sixth singles contest.

CWRU's two losses came at fifth singles, where Seneviratne bested Young 6-3, 1-6 and 11-9 and at sixth singles, where Gurvich fell to Galle 6-2, 6-1.
