Spartans Down Gettysburg 9-0 on Final Day in Florida

The 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team concluded their Spring Break to Florida by defeating Gettysburg College 9-0 in Haines City at the Lake Eva Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

The Spartans improved to 7-2 on the season, while Gettysburg dropped to 3-2 for the campaign.

Case Western Reserve swept the three doubles matches on Wednesday, as juniors Nithya Kanagasegar and Peyton Young topped Laura Gradiska and Gillian Minnerly 8-0 at first doubles, freshmen Katrin Gurvich and Katie Busch bested Samantha Boardman and Emily Simonds 8-2 at second doubles, and senior Kennedy Mulholland and freshman Lauren Beier earned an 8-0 win over Maddie Class and Erin Sweeney at third doubles.

In singles play, all six of the Spartan victories were in straight sets. Freshman Kendal Holladay topped Gradiska 6-1, 6-2 in the first match, and junior Nina Cepeda earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Minnerly at second singles. In the third singles match, Gurvich bested Boardman 6-1, 6-1 and Busch picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Simonds at fourth singles. Rounding out the win, Mulholland claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Lutz at fifth singles, Beier battled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Class at sixth singles.
