Spartans Run Record to 4-1 With Win at Rochester

The 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team won its fourth-straight match, defeating the University of Rochester 7-2 on Sunday in Rochester, New York.

The Spartans raised their overall record to 4-1 for the season, while Rochester dropped to 2-2.

CWRU opened its match on Sunday against the Yellowjackets with a sweep of the three doubles matches. At first doubles, junior Nithya Kanagasegar and sophomore Jessica Liu picked up an 8-3 win over Camila Garcia and Sravya Gudipudi, while junior Peyton Young and freshman Kendal Holladay claimed an 8-2 win over Alex Wolkoff and Lauren Zickar in the second match. Junior Nina Cepeda and freshman Katie Busch rounded out the sweep with an 8-2 win over Abbey Reinhart and Darby McCall at third doubles.

The Spartans went on to win four of the six singles matches. Kanagasegar earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Garcia at first singles, with Liu claiming a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wolkoff at third singles. In the fourth singles match, Cepeda picked up a victory over Zickar, 7-5, 6-3, and Young defeated Reinhart 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth singles contest.

The Spartans two losses came at second singles, where Gudipudi bested Holladay 2-6, 6-2 (10-8), and at sixth singles, where freshman Katrin Gurvich fell to McCall, 6-4, 6-1.
