Emory Blanks Brenau for First Dual Match Win

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis program breezed past NAIA Brenau University, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center for its first dual match victory of the 2017 season.

The Eagles opened the match with a clean sweep in doubles action. Junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su defeated the Golden Tigers' top doubles team of Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Elizabeth Bielicki 8-3 on court no.-1 with senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez adding an 8-1 decision at No.-2 doubles over Patricia Recalde Pacau and Paula Rives Palau. Seniors Michelle DeMeo and Melissa Goodman closed out doubles play with the Eagles' third point, winning by default.

In singles action, Emory dominated Brenau losing just four games total. Satterfield bested Mammetgulyyeva 6-2, 6-0 at first singles with Lopez earning the second singles point 6-0, 6-1 over Pacua. At third and fifth singles, both Su and DeMeo collected 6-0, 6-0 triumphs while Goodman posted a win at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1, against Palau. Senior Paula Castro won by default at sixth singles to round out the match for the Blue and Gold.

"It was nice to see us go out and execute our game plan so well," Head Coach Amy Bryant said following the match. "We showed a lot of improvement from our first match against Georgia Gwinnett."
