The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team began its four matches in five days stretch of play with a win over No.-7 Tufts University Friday afternoon in Medford, MA. The Eagles improved to 8-4 on the season following the 7-2 decision while the Jumbos fell to 9-3.
Emory opened the match with a clean sweep in doubles to gain a 3-0 advantage. Junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su downed Mina Karamercan and Lauren Louks, 8-5, on court one. In second doubles, senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez continued to roll, winning their seventh consecutive match, defeating Katherine Wiley and Otilia Popa, 9-7. Seniors Paula Castro and Michelle DeMeo rounded out the action on court three, earning an 8-6 decision over Tomo Iwasaki and Connor Calabro.
The momentum continued into singles play as the Eagles claimed four of the six matches, all in straight sets, to nail down the victory.
Satterfield moved into a tie for fifth place all-time in Emory history with her 82nd career singles win, besting Louks 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. On court four, Su climbed into a tie for ninth place on the Emory all-time charts as she notched her 78th singles win of her career with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Wiley.
Adding wins for the Eagles were Lopez at third singles and Castro at sixth singles. Lopez rolled past Iwasaki 6-4, 6-0 while Castro registered a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Calabro.
"I am pleased with how we were able to hit our goals in doubles and bring the energy into singles," remarked Head Coach Amy Bryant. "It's a great first day here in Boston."
