Violets' Alyssa Poentis Takes Individual Title at NYU Invitational

The New York University women's golf team finished fourth out of nine teams at the NYU Fall Invitational, which the Violets hosted on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16, at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ.

Williams College placed first with a score of 637, finishing 32 strokes ahead of NYU.

Alyssa Poentis won the individual title after shooting 79 on Sunday to narrowly defeat Jessica Jeong of Amherst College by one stroke. The round followed her 77 on Saturday. (156)

"We could have played better this weekend," said Poentis. "But overall, we had a really good fall season."

The Violets' Patty Treevichaphan, competing as an individual, took third place. She finished one stroke behind Jeong and two strokes off the lead (79-79).

HIGHLIGHTS

- Arisa Kimura, also competing as an individual, rebounded on Sunday to finish in 12th place (85-79).

- Jenni Bluetling posted a score of 169 (88-81) to tie for 20th.

"The greens were really fast this weekend, and as a result our scores were higher than we would have liked," explained Bluetling.

- Ashley Tsoi and Kristin Lee were the next highest Violet finishers, placing T24 (86-84) and T26 (88-86).

"It was tough out there, but we all had to play on the same course," added Head Coach Brad Johnson.

This concludes the team's 2016 fall season.
