ITA Honors Rochester For Academic Work

From University of Rochester Athletics

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its academic awards for the 2015-16 season and the University of Rochester tennis teams were well represented.

Rochester's men's and women's tennis teams both earned the ITA All-Academic team award by having a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).

It is the 11th straight year that UR's women have earned that distinction and the seventh time in the last eight seasons that the Yellowjacket men have earned the team award.

In addition to the team awards, four athletes from both the men's and women's teams were recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes.  Students earn this award by being a varsity letterwinner who has a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year while being enrolled at their present school for two semesters.

Rochester's men were led by 2016 graduate Ben Shapiro who earned his fourth straight ITA Scholar Athlete honor.  Rising juniors Andrew Nunno and Aaron Mevorach both have been named for the second time while the fourth Scholar Athlete was Kevin Hunt who recently completed his freshman year.

On the women's side, 2016 grad Molly Goodman completed her career with a third ITA Scholar Athlete award while soon to be senior Lauren Zickar also has earned the honor three times.  Two first year tennis players from 2015-16, Grace DiGiovanni and Camila Garcia, rounded out the Yellowjacket women's team winners.

Joining Rochester in earning the men's team award were fellow UAA rivals, the University of Chicago and Washington University in St. Louis.  A total of six of the eight UAA schools had ITA Scholar Athletes named this year as well.  For the women, seven of the eight schools made the ITA All-Academic team list, with Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University and Brandeis University joining the fold.
