CWRU Opens Season at Bowling Green Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, which ended the 2016-17 season ranked 18th in Division III, kicked off its 2017 fall season this weekend at the BGSU Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Leading the way for the Spartans at the tournament was sophomore Katrin Gurvich, who went 3-1 in singles play during the weekend, while senior Peyton Young and sophomore Lauren Beier each recorded a 2-1 record throughout the two-day tournament. Freshmen Mira Amin and Nicole Cardwell began their collegiate careers with 2-1 performances at Bowling Green. Other CWRU players to collect singles wins during the tournament includes senior Nithya Kanagasegar, senior Nina Cepeda and freshman Madeleine Paolucci.

CWRU players combined to go 7-7 in doubles action as well, with five different pairings securing at least one win. Kanagasegar and Paolucci went 2-1 together in doubles matches, while Cepeda and Gurvich recorded a 2-1 record as well. Freshman Kenzie Osborne added two more wins in doubles play, going 1-0 with Amin and 1-1 with Beier.
