Spartans Earn 7-2 Win Over Hope

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team claimed a 7-2 win over 21st-ranked Hope College at the DeWitt Tennis Center in Holland, Michigan.

The win was the Spartans' second this season over a nationally-ranked opponent, as the team improved to 4-2 overall on the season. Hope dropped to 1-3 on the year with the loss.

CWRU started off the day strong, taking two of the three doubles to open up a 2-1 advantage over Hope. Picking up doubles victories were the pairings of senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci, who defeated Hope's Amanda Bandrowski and Bailey Chorney 8-3 in the first doubles match, and junior Jessica Liu and freshman Mira Amin, who picked up an 8-0 win at third doubles over Natalie Rahrig and Liz Pniewski. The Spartans lone loss came in the second match, where senior Peyton Young and freshman Nicole Cardwell suffered a 9-8 (7-2) defeat to Claire Hallock and Taylor LaBarge.

The Spartans went on to win five of the next six singles matches. Kanagasegar fought-hard to earn 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Bandrowski at first singles, with Amin claiming a 6-3, 6-2 victory over LaBarge at third singles. In the fourth singles match, Young defeated Rahrig 6-1, 6-1, while Cardwell defeated Chorney 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles contest. Liu closed out the wins for CWRU on Saturday, as she earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Pniewski in the sixth singles contest.
