Spartans Earn 7-2 Win Over Division II Walsh

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, currently ranked 16th in Division III, claimed a 7-2 win over Division II opponent Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 13-3 on the season with the win, while Walsh dropped to 10-8 for the campaign. CWRU has now won two-straight dual matches and 10 of its last 11 matches.

Case Western Reserve swept the three doubles matches on Thursday, as senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci topped Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch 8-1 at first doubles, senior Nina Cepeda and junior Jessica Liu bested Maria Kacalova and Katarina Raszum 8-2 at second doubles, and senior Peyton Young and freshman Nicole Cardwell earned an 8-1 win over Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour at third doubles.

The Spartans went on to win four of the six singles matches. Kanagasegar earned a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Fernandez at first singles, with Paolucci claiming a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Kacalova at second singles. In the fifth singles match, Cepeda picked up a victory over Khairutdinova, 6-4, 6-0, and Cardwell defeated Karimpour 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth singles contest.

CWRU's two losses came at third singles, where Drasch bested freshman Mira Amin 6-3, 6-4, and at fourth singles, where Liu fell to Raszum 7-5, 6-2.
