Emory Continues to Roll on Day Two of ITA Regional Championships

The Emory University Women's Tennis team saw three players advance to the ITA Regional Championship semifinals in the singles draw with another three doubles pairings reaching the semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Sewanee, TN.

In the singles bracket, senior Bridget Harding, junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico will represent the Eagles on Sunday in the semifinals. Harding reached the final four by defeating freshman Katie Chang 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 before toppling Rhodes' Dasha Safarian 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Lopez and Gonzalez-Rico both topped a pair of Sewanee Tigers to advance to the semifinals. Lopez bested Haley Tucker 6-0, 6-3 and Clementina Davila 6-1, 6-2 while Gonzalez-Rico beat Sara Thompson 6-3, 6-0 and Christina Merchant 6-1, 6-2.

Over in the doubles draw, Harding and Gonzalez-Rico will represent the Eagles in the finals Sunday afternoon, squaring off against Sewanee's Davila and Catherine Owen. Harding and Gonzalez-Rico reached the championship match after defeating Sewanee's Thompson and Tucker 8-4 in the quarterfinals and teammates Emma Perelman and Stephanie Taylor, 8-2, in the semifinals. Lopez and freshman Defne Olcay also advanced to the semifinals of the draw with an 8-0 shutout over Millsaps' Ford and Dabadie but were upended by Davila and Owen in the semifinals, 8-2.
