NYU Women's Tennis Takes Program-Best Third Place at UAA Championship

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's tennis team defeated Washington University in St. Louis and claimed third place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, which was held Thursday-Saturday, April 20-22, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The 5-3 victory over the Bears in the third-place match on Saturday secured the Violets' best-ever finish at the UAA Championship.

"I've said all season how much I like this team. They can compete with anyone in the country," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "They competed hard throughout the lineup and dug deep when they had to."

NYU eased to victories in two of the three doubles matches, with Ida Krause and Dakota Fordham at #1 and Molly Heber and Karina Jensrud at #2 posting 8-1 victories.

Fordham's victory at #2 singles increased NYU's lead to 3-1.

However, Wash U took the next two matches to even the score.

But, when Krause won her #1 singles match and Heber followed with a victory at #6, the match was clinched and the Violets walked off the courts with the program's best-ever finish.

"At the risk of repeating myself, I am so proud of how they played and happy for the best finish at UAA's in NYU women's tennis history," Choy added. "I don't think the season is over for us and want the opportunity to continue to prove how good this team is."

NYU finished its regular season with an 11-2 record and now awaits word on a potential NCAA Championship berth.
