No. 1 UChicago Women's Tennis Advances to National Semifinals with Win over Carnegie Mellon

University of Chicago's top-ranked women's tennis program cruised to a 5-1 quarterfinal victory over Carnegie Mellon at the NCAA Division III Team Championship on Sunday. 

The undefeated Maroons defeated CMU for the second time this season, advancing to the NCAA semifinals, which will be on Tuesday, May 16. UChicago will take on fourth-ranked Middlebury at Noon CT with a berth to the NCAA Championship on the line. 

UChicago won 2-of-3 doubles matchups to take a 2-1 advantage into the singles portion of the competition. The Maroons then secured the first three completed singles matches to clinch the 5-1 win.

In doubles, Claudia Ng and Perene Wang teamed up at No. 2 to defeat their opponents, 8-5. At No. 3 doubles, Nicole Geller and Lauren Khou also won by an identical 8-5 score. 

In singles, Miranda Yuan secured a win at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-1. Shianna Guo defeated her opponent at No. 2 singles in straight sets as well, 6-3, 6-0. Ng also handled her matchup at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2, to finish off the win.

Nicole Geller won the first set at No. 3 singles 6-4 and was tied 4-4 in the second when the match was clinched. 

This will be the Maroons' second-straight appearance in the semifinals and they will have a rematch with Middlebury, who they defeated 5-1 in 2022.
