NYU Kicks Off Fall Season at Vassar Scramble

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's tennis team opened its 2023 fall season with Day 1 of the Vassar Scramble on Saturday in Poughkeepsie.

The weekend, featuring singles and doubles matches between NYU, host Vassar College, the United States Military Academy (Army), Hamilton College, and SUNY New Paltz, does not have team scoring.

"It was good to get out on the court and compete. There were some positives and we saw areas that we need to work on and improve upon," said head coach Horace Choy. "We have a lot of newcomers and the ones competing got their first taste of college tennis and everyone was able to come away with a victory. Day two will give us a chance to take another step forward."

Nine Violets saw action in the singles matches on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Ksenia Goel collected NYU's first win with a 6-4 victory against Army.

Jimena Menendez, one of two team captains this year, delivered a 7-5 triumph over Vassar. Isabella Hartman also defeated her Brewer opponent, posting a 6-3 win.

Tess Heber and Kendall Kamerschen were also victorious, recording wins of 6-1 against Hamilton and 6-2 vs. New Paltz, respectively.

Six duos represented the Violets in the doubles matches. All-American co-captain Dakota Fordham teamed up with Hartman to win 6-4 against Army, while Nicole Wuelfing and Hannah Chang notched a 6-1 victory against a mixed pair from Vassar and Army.
