The New York University women's track and field team completed its first day of competition at the Princeton Elite Meet, hosted on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, by Princeton University.

Sophomore Sarah Sisk was the first Violet to step on the track on Friday night, and she set the tone for the team, breaking a school record in the 800m. Sisk clocked 2:14.97 for second place in her heat and eighth place overall. The previous NYU record of 2:15.46 was set in 2010 by Maeve Evans.

"Sarah had a strong race today," said Head Coach Nick McDonough. "She was sitting in third at the 400m mark, her split was about 66 seconds. She started the finishing kick with 300m to go and crossed the finish line in second place."

Senior team co-captain Emily Cousens was 11th in the 1,500m race. She clocked 4:39.42, just 0.35 sec shy of her season's best set at last week's University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, where Cousens gained the victory. The race in Princeton was won by the 2012 World Junior champion in the 800m Ajee Wilson (4:21.16).

"The weather was pretty good today. It was a little windy, but still quite comfortable," added McDonough.
