The New York University women's track & field team began its outdoor campaign at the Bulls Invitational hosted by he University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, on Thursday and Friday, March 19-20.

The competition was part of the Violets' spring break training camp.,

"We had a very productive spring break," noted Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "We were able to focus on training full-time and benefit from great weather in Florida. The University of South Florida was very accommodating in letting us use their track. The fast times posted today show that our hard work pays off."

NYU had a set of strong performances in the 800m. Freshman Ireland Gibson, who was close to breaking the school record indoors, managed to accomplish it in her first outdoor race. She took second among 39 runners in 2:13.95. The previous NYU record of 2:14.48 was set by current team member, junior Sarah Sisk, last year. Sisk was in action in Tampa, as well, placing eighth with a time of 2:19.40. Sophomore Wendy He finished 14th in 2:24.48, while freshman Megan Davis was 25th in 2:30.91.

"Ireland broke the school record and placed second in a big field, which was impressive," said Boylan-Pett. "Sisk was in the same heat and posted a good time, as well. It is another step in the right direction. They all had an aggressive week of training, and fast times coming off of hard workouts is a good sign."
