From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis women's track and field team had five All-New England performances today as the Judges scored 16 points and finished in a tie for 17^th place at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College this weekend. It was the best performance for Brandeis at New Englands in the outdoor season since 2010.

Leading the way for the Judges were a pair of 5,000-meter runners. Junior Maddie Dolins (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) set an outdoor personal best in the event with a time of 17:51.25, about six seconds off her indoor best, but two seconds better than her previous outdoor mark. That was good for fourth place in the event. Just behind was rookie Julia Bryson (No. Quincy, Mass./Quincy), who placed sixth with a time of 17:55.77, good for sixth place and a personal-best by more than 20 seconds. This was Dolins' third All-New England honor of 2015-16 (cross country and indoors in the 5K) and fourth overall (cross country in 2013), while Julia Bryson earned her first All-Region honor.

The Judges had a pair of fifth-place finishes as well. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) ran a time of 58.41 seconds to earn All-New England honors for the third time this year – she finished seventh indoors in the 400 and as part of the eighth-place 4x200-meter relay. Burhans was unable to improve on her season-best 56.94 seconds run at the UAA Championships, but she still ranks 35^th in Division III in the event. Burhans also finished 17^th in the 200 in 26.22 seconds, 0.22 off a personal best.

Also finishing in fifth place in the 1,500-meter run was rookie Emily Bryson (No. Quincy, Mass./Quincy), twin sister of Julia. Emily posted a lifetime best of 4:35.34 in the event, which is the 32^nd-fastest in Division III this season. She bettered her previous best by 2.8 seconds to earn All-New England honors for the third time in 2015-16 and will hope to make her third trip to the NCAA Division III Championships as a freshman. Emily earned All-America honors during cross country season and placed 12^th nationally in the mile run indoors.

Also running for the Judges, senior Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./Notre Dame Acad.) finished 10^th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:39.47, a season-best, while sophomore Kyra Shreeve (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) was 25^th in 4:58.32. Junior Lydia McCaleb (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) placed 18^th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:23.25, a personal best by 10 seconds.
