Violets Round Out Stay at Penn Relays

From NYU Athletics

A small contingent of the New York University women's track & field team completed its stay at the Penn Relays on Saturday, April 30.

The women (senior Sarah Sisk, sophomore Ireland Gibson, senior Becky Turlip, junior Wendy He) secured 14th place by also recording a season-best time of 9:14.06. Monmouth University captured the victory running a time of 8:49.37.

The team of sophomore Vince Booth, senior Max Avila, junior Curtis Mann, and freshman Sohma Kamat competed in the College Men's 4x800 College of America Invitational. Posting a season-best time of 7:45.73, the Violets took 13th just behind the U.S. Naval Academy (7:45.12). La Salle University took home first place by clocking a time of 7:31.03.

"To follow a tough weekend over at the UAA (University Athletic Association) Championships to compete in one of the greatest track events in the world was a fun experience," said Assistant Coach Erison Hurtault. "Each one of our relay teams performed very well against Division I competition. The 4x400 women's team, for instance, has the ability to go far if they keep putting the work in to be in contention. Some of our teams came close to school records. Everyone just showed great effort.

"Now it's time to look toward the coming weeks," continued Hurtault. "The season is winding down and we have some important meets coming up. Next week's meet is going to be another tough test for these teams. They should be prepared for the challenge."
