NYU Finishes 14th Roadrunner Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's track & field team competed at the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday, April 1, in Mahwah, NJ.

NYU accumulated 22 points to tie with Dominican College (NY) for 14th. Adelphi University was crowned the invitational champions (86).

Fresh off her appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, freshman Evelyn Nkanga secured second in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 11.16m. Senior Simone Cooper followed right behind in third, jumping a distance of 10.96m.

"They were consistent again," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "They were the top performers  on the women's side. For the early outdoor season in poor conditions, it was good to see them competing well."

The Violets also found their points from the 3,000m steeplechase. Senior Justine Morris and junior Megan Davis finished at each other's heels in second and third with times of 11:59.19 and 12:01.70, respectively.

The track also saw freshman Isabella Steains take 19th in the 1,500m with a time of 5:22.25. Senior Wendy He followed close behind in 22nd place (5:27.79) and sophomore Karen Yao trailed in 30th (5:34.11).

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Sherine Sbay finished the 800m in 39th place, recording a time of 2:51.33.

- Back on the field, freshman Helen Joyner finished in 12th place in the hammer throw with a toss of 28.63m.

"I think that if we can come back with the same level of focus with better conditions, we can come back a step closer to being prepared for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships," said Hurtault.
