Two Spartans Tally First-Place Finishes at Season-Opening Washington & Lee Carnival

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team opened its 2018 outdoor season this weekend, with the women winning two events at the 2018 W&L Carnival, hosted by Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia on Friday and Saturday.

The Spartan women were strong in the hammer throw at the meet, taking three of the top-five spots in the event. Senior Nimi Gupta won the hammer throw with a mark of 43.43 meters, while junior Marina Yu claimed second with a mark of 42.48 meters and sophomore Chanel Dore finished fifth with a distance of 37.29 meters.

Sophomore Madeline Lindemann won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:45.82, while senior Rachel Laveson added a fourth-place finish in the event with a time of 39:44.01.

Senior Claire Plunkett was the team's top performer in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third with a time of 12:40.07. Senior Marie-Louise Kloster was the team's top performer in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.06.

Other top performers for the CWRU women during the meet included sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn in the 1,500-meter run (fourth, 4:58.32) and in the 800-meter run (fourth, 2:22.55), sophomore Abby Waltz in the pole vault (fourth, 3.05m), senior Rachel Willard in the triple jump (fourth, 10.27m) and freshman Eleanor Gaddy in the javelin (fifth, 29.48m).
