Spartans Finish Third at Sparky Adams Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team turned in strong performances at the Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio on Saturday.

The women scored 104.5 points to finish third out of 11 teams at the meet. Baldwin Wallace won the competition with 148 points, while Ohio Wesleyan placed second with 130 points.

The Spartan women tallied two first-place finishes, as senior Nimi Gupta finished first in the weight throw and senior Rachel Willard placed first in the triple jump. Gupta won the weight throw with a mark of 46.92 meters, while Willard added a first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.72 meters. Willard also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters.

Other top finishers for the Spartan women included junior Shannon Carroll in the javelin throw (third, 36.27m) and in the 100-meter hurdles (fifth, 16.94), freshman Taylor Jackson in the discus throw (third, 35.82m), sophomore Abby Waltz in the pole vault (second, 3.12m), junior Jennifer Hoffmann (third, 4:54.59) and freshman Kiera Olson (fifth, 5:02.45) in the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Emily Herrmann in the 400-meter hurdles (third, 1:09.95), sophomore Bailey Flint in the high jump (fifth, 1.47m) and freshman Julie Hines in the 400-meter dash (fifth, 1:00.60).
