NYU Completes UAA Competition

The New York University women's track & field team took seventh place at this year's edition of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships. The weekend competition was hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.  

The Violets tallied 31 points over two days, as the title went to Washington University in St. Louis (235.50). 

In the very first event of the day, Violet sophomore Evelyn Nkanga competed in the triple jump and finished in second place. The silver-medal winner cleared a season-best 11.47m, scoring eight points for NYU. Senior Brianna Yee cleared a jump of 10.41m to finish in seventh. Nkanga missed the top spot on the podium and the gold by 17 hundredths of a meter, as the triple jump title went to Washington's Heidi Nassos (11.64m).

Nkanga next took her talents to the track where she secured the bronze in the 200m dash. The Sayreville, NJ, native posted a time of 26.65.

In the final UAA race of her collegiate career, senior Alexa Goldman narrowly missed taking a spot on the podium in the 400m hurdles. The native of Massapequa, NY, landed in fourth place (1:07.64) to score five points for the Violets. She trailed third-place finisher Olivia Kattau of the University of Chicago by a little more than a second.

OTHER UAA HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior Erini Farid capped her UAA career by scoring two points for the Violets in the javelin throw. The Staten Island, NY, native cleared a distance of 28.75 to place sixth. She missed her season-best throw by two hundredths of a meter.

- Sophomore Isabella Steains paced NYU in the 1,500m by placing 10th with a personal-best time of 4:55.23. Senior Megan Davis and freshman Mary Grace Neville trailed behind in 20th (season-best 5:07.00) and 24th (5:27.82), respectively.

- Fresh off her seventh-place performance in Saturday's 10,000m, senior Hannah Haley led the Violets in the 5,000m by finishing 16th (18:46.06). Following behind were senior Morel Malcolm in 17th and junior Karen Yao in 22nd with times of 18:46.06 and (personal-best) 20:03.23, respectively.
