From Washington University Athletics
Washington University in St. Louis had four members of the cross country and track & field programs selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA).
Of the four selections senior Alison Lindsay and sophomore Nick Matteucci were chosen for the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team, while senior Annalise Wagner and junior Heidi Nassos garnered second team honors.
Alison Lindsay, 3.96 in Political Science and French
Lindsay was selected by CoSIDA to the Academic All-America First Team for the second consecutive year after posting All-American finishes in the final eight seasons of her career, dating back to the 2016 Indoor Track & Field season. In her career, she represented WashU at 12 of 12 possible Division III National Championships as a member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field teams. During Lindsay's senior season, she ran to All-America honors in cross country (25th – 21:22.90), indoor track & field (distance medley relay, second – 11:41.24) and outdoor track & field (steeplechase, fifth – 10:25.65). She concluded her academic career at WashU with a 3.96 grade point average while studying political science and French.
Nick Matteucci, 4.00 in Chemical Engineering
In his first year of eligibility for the Google Cloud Academic All-America award, Matteucci was chosen for the First Team. He was the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Elite 90 winner with a 4.00 GPA in chemical engineering. Matteucci had two All-American finishes during his sophomore campaign which included a runner-up finish as a member of the distance medley relay (9:57.81) team at the indoor national championships. He finished the year with All-American honors in the 1,500m race by placing third with a time of 3:53.33. In addition, Matteucci helped the WashU cross country team to a fifth place finish with a time of 25:31.09.
Heidi Nassos, 3.94 in Finance and Economics & Strategy
Nassos was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team after finishing her junior season with three All-American finishes and a 3.94 GPA in finance and economics & strategy. During the indoor national championships, she posted a personal-best height of 3.90m to place third in the pole vault. Nassos headed into outdoor nationals as a contender in pole vault and also earned entry to the triple jump after posting a career-best 11.78m jump at the North Central College Final Qualifier. She proceeded to earn All-American honors at both events at nationals with a clearance of 3.80m for a runner-up finish in pole vault and a pair of 11.69m triple jumps to place eighth.
Annalise Wagner, 3.89 in Environmental Policy and Philosophy
Wagner capped off a stellar career with her first selection by CoSIDA to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team. She finished with a 3.89 GPA in environmental policy and philosophy, while adding four All-American honors. Over the span of Wagner's four years, she totaled 12 All-American finishes. Her senior campaign included a runner-up finish in the 800m race at indoor nationals with a time of 2:08.78, setting the school record and making Wagner the fifth fastest performer in Division III history. She was also a member of the second place distance medley relay team (11:41.24) at indoor nationals, before placing third in the outdoor national's 800m (2:07.86) and seventh in the 4x400m relay (3:49.48).
