Paige Lawler and Aly Wayne Shatter 10K Record to Start Washington University Invitational

Sophomore Paige Lawler and senior Aly Wayne shattered the previously held 10,000m record during day one of the WashU Invitational at Bushyhead Track Friday evening.

Lawler and Wayne finished sandwiched between two unattached runners while breaking a nine-year old record, previously held by Taryn Surtees (35:41.80, 2009). Lawler finished more than 20 seconds ahead of Surtees time and set the new school mark at 35:20.53, while Wayne posted the second best all-time Bears time by crossing the finish line in 35:26.38.

More than 135 student-athletes competed in the women's 5,000m as WashU nine of the top-81 times. Sophomore Sophie Watterson placed seventh overall as she posted the top Division III mark of the meet with a time of 17:26.33.
