Maroons Close Out UAA Championships with Five Wins; Women Finish Second

The University of Chicago women's track & field team finished runner-up and the men's team placed fourth at the conclusion of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on Sunday.

UChicago's women scored 228.50 points to take second out of seven teams in the field.

The women's 5,000 meters featured a big showing from the Maroons, as the hosts placed four runners in the top six overall. Maddie Kelly moved to the front of the pack late and stayed there to win the race in 16:59.79.

Molly Laumakis added to her trophy haul with her third victory of the weekend. After snagging the hammer throw and shot put titles the day before, Laumakis triumphed in the discus with a throw of 43.48 meters.

Gabriela Meschino had the closest finish of the two-day meet in the 100-meter dash. Meschino crossed the finish line in 12.17, holding off her opponent from Emory University by a mere 0.01 seconds.

Loren Brown put up a pair of top-two performances in the hurdles. The sophomore was a runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.35. She followed that up by winning the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.23.

Rebecca Stewart was an All-UAA honoree after taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.74 meters. The 4x100-meter relay (Camila Garanton, Meschino, Isabel Layne, Maddie Lyons) as well as the 4x400-meter relay (Brown, Maya Ordonez, Garanton, Layne) garnered All-UAA status in third place.

UChicago's men tallied 145 points to place fourth of seven teams. Andrew Ray led the way in the hurdle events. He won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.19, and later in the meet claimed runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles at 55.17.

Aryan Shrivastava secured a pair of All-UAA accolades in the jumps. The Maroon rookie was second in the triple jump (13.83 meters) and third in the high jump (1.94 meters).

UChicago received second-place finishes from both Ryan Anderson in the javelin (52.36 meters) and Myles Xavier in the 100 meters (10.87).

Simon Dixon took third in the discus at 41.82 meters and Michael Han was third in the 400 meters at 49.86.
