From Emory University Athletics

Junior Debora Adjibaba broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash twice on Friday, to pace the Emory University Track and Field team to a successful opening meet of its 2013-14 season at the Panther Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama.

Adjibaba recorded a time of 7.70 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, and bested that mark with a time of 7.69 seconds in the finals of the event to finish in fifth place, despite being the only non-Division I runner in the heat.  The times surpassed her own school record of 7.71 seconds, set during last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.

Adjibaba was also Emory's top finisher in the 200-meter dash, claiming 23rd with a time of 25.81 seconds, the fourth-fastest mark in school history.

Making her Emory debut, junior Josephine Akinwumiju led the Eagles in a pair of throwing events, finishing 18th in the shot put with a toss of 10.72 meters, and 19th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.05 meters.  Other top finishers for the Emory women at the meet included junior Pollara Cobb in the triple jump (13th place, 10.36 meters), junior Elaina Kim in the pole vault (11th place, 3.10 meters) and the long jump (26th place, 4.57 meters), senior Mogran Monroe in the 60-meter hurdles (seventh-place in the preliminaries, 9.25 seconds), junior Electra Korn in the 400-meter dash (10th place, 59.75 seconds), sophomore Julie Williamson in the 800-meter dash (11th-place, 2:23.87), junior Margaret Gregg in the 3,000-meter run (20th place, 11:27.95), and juniors Carolyn Barnett and Katie Wilson in the high jump (1.50 meters, tied for 12thplace).

There was no team scoring for the meet on Friday.

Emory will be off for the remainder of the calendar year, resuming its indoor season on Friday, January 17th at the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.
