Carnegie Mellon Finishes UAA Indoor Championships in Sixth

The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team recorded a sixth-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships.  This year the championships were held in Waltham, Massachusetts, on the campus of Brandeis University.

Freshman Rebecca Fortner had the top finish for the Tartans with a second-place showing in the high jump.  She cruised over the bar at 1.58 meters to grab All-UAA honors for the first time.

Senior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) helped the Tartans on Saturday in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line in 7.56 seconds for a sixth-place finish in the sprint and grabbed third place in the hurdles with a time of 8.64.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Guevel, junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead), and freshmen Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) and Emily Swanson (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) collaborated to get a sixth-place finish with a time of 4:11.10. 

Spalding also placed sixth in the long jump leaping 4.91 meters and fourth in the shot put with a career-best toss of 10.81 meters.
