Junior Ulrica Tull earned all-conference honors during
the first day of competition at the 2014 University Athletic
Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Waltham,
Massachusetts on Friday afternoon.
Tull was the leading scorer on day one for the Emory women,
finishing third in the weight throw with a throw of 13.96 meters,
the fourth-best throw in the event in school history. Her
finish contributed six points towards Emory's team score.
Adding scoring finishes for the women were junior Pollara
Cobb, who claimed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.98 meters
to contribute two points, junior Tamara Surtees, who finished
sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:18.41 to add a
point, and the Eagles' distance medley relay team of
junior Marissa Gogniat, freshmanAlexa Young,
junior Hannah Smith and junior Elise Viox, which
finished sixth with a time of 12:40.49 to contribute another point
towards the team total.
After the first day, the Eagles are in sixth place in the women's
team standings, trailing Washington University (46 points), the
University of Chicago (39 points), New York University (24 points),
Case Western Reserve University (15 points) and Carnegie Mellon
University (13 points).
Three Emory women advanced in each of the 55-meter dash and
200-meter dash, led by junior Debora Adjibaba, who won both
events with times of 7.23 seconds and 25.74 seconds,
respectively. Also advancing to the finals in the 55-meter
dash were senior Morgan Monroe (second, 7.38 seconds) and
freshman Harley Barrera (sixth, 7.51 seconds), while
junior Electra Korn (second, 26.19 seconds) and Monroe
(fourth, 26.24 seconds) each reached the finals of the 200-meter
dash. Korn also reached the finals of the 400-meter dash,
winning the preliminaries with a time of 58.23 seconds.
Three Eagles reached the finals of the women's 800-meter run as
well, with junior Stephanie Crane finishing second in the
preliminaries with a time of 2:17.49 seconds, while
senior Emily Caesar claimed third (2:17.46) and
sophomore Julie Williamson fifth (2:18.31). Monroe
added a win in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles with a
time of 8.35 seconds to cap off Emory's finals qualifiers on day
one.
