Lucy Cheadle Races To All-America Honors On Day Two Of NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

From Washington University Athletics

Junior Lucy Cheadle broke her own school record on her way to an All-America finish in the 3,000 meters for the Washington University in St. Louis track & field team Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Cheadle earned her second All-America honor of the meet by placing seventh in the women's 3,000. Just six-tenths of a second separated the fifth- through seventh-place finishers in the race. Cheadle's time of 9:46.91 was more than four seconds better than her previous school record of 9:51.11 set at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships two weeks ago. With her fourth-place finish in the 5,000 Friday evening, Cheadle is just the second women's athlete in school history to earn All-America honors in more than one individual event at the NCAA Indoor Championships, joining Anne Diaz-Arrastia, who did so in the pentathlon and triple jump in 2013.

The Washington University women scored 11 team points at the NCAA Indoor Championships to finish 20th in the team standings. It marks the eighth top-20 finish in school history for the Washington U. women.
