Kelsey Whitaker of Brandeis Named All-New England in Mile

Junior Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./Notre Dame Acad.)earned All-New England honors in the mile un on Saturday when she placed fourth in the event held at Smith College.

Whitaker turned in a season-best time of 5:00.90, ranking her second in the University Athletic Association and 14th in all of Division III this season. She is in search of her second NCAA Championship berth in the mile run and fourth overall - she has also been in two NCAA cross country meets. 

Senior Kristi Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) had a personal-best in the mile run with a time of 5:16.06, good for 15th place. 

Also turning in a personal-best with the squad's next-highest placement was sophomore Lydia McCaleb (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), who placed 11th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:34.07. Sophomore Kate Farrell (Windham, N.H./Windham) was 13th in the event with a time of 10:37.58. 

Rookie Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) won her heat and placed 12th by time in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 1:00.94, just off a PR. Junior Tove Freeman (Oakham, Mass./Quabbin Regional) improved her PR by more than six-tenths of a second, finishing 16th with a time of 1:01.07.

Sophomore Kyra Shreeve (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) placed 14th in the 1,000-meter run, knocking four seconds off her previous best time in the event. 

The five points scored by Whitaker put the Judges in 24th place among 30 teams that scored points. Brandeis is back in action next weekend at the UAA Championships at the University of Chicago.
