From NYU Athletics
The New York University women's track & field team took part
in the Ramapo Roadrunner Indoor Tune-up on Friday, February 20, at
the Armory in Manhattan.
For the Violets, who are preparing for the upcoming University
Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, this meet
presented an opportunity to test themselves in a competitive
environment and to achieve qualifying standards.
"It was a small meet overall, and we only had a small contingent of
athletes competing today," said Head Coach Will
Boylan-Pett. "The team trained through the meet. We had a
tough workout just on Wednesday. Today it was more of a tune-up for
the UAA's next weekend."
NYU took ninth place overall in a 23-team field with a total of 21
points. The victory went to host Ramapo College with 84
points.
"The 800m was a strong race for us," noted Boylan-Pett. "In the
mile, Morel Malcolm won her heat. She wasn't
in the fastest section, though, and maybe could have ran a little
faster in the first section. But it is important to be able to get
in front and seize that winning opportunity."
Three Violets scored points for the team in the 800m,
Juniors Becky Turlip and Sarah
Sisk, and freshman Megan Davis were
seeded in the fastest heat. Turlip and Sisk were among the leaders
all the way and finished third and fifth in 2:24.88 and 2:27.45,
respectively. Davis started conservatively, but demonstrated a
strong last lap and finished sixth in the heat and overall with a
time of 2:29.97.
