Washington University in St. Louis senior Lucy Cheadle broke her own school record to finish third in the women's 5,000 meters at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday.
Cheadle clocked a time of 16:44.86 to place third in the event out of 121 runners behind a pair of NCAA Division II runners. GVSU's Amy Cymerman won in a time of 16:38.35 and University of Southern Indiana's Julia Kohnen was second in 16:41.81. Cheadle's time broke her own school record of 16:47.46 set in 2014, and is the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season by nearly four seconds. She was just a second off of the 10th-fastest time in NCAA Division III history.
