Brandeis Shines at Boston University and Tufts

From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis track and field teams had one of their busiest weekends of the year this past weekend, sending runners to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Friday and Saturday, with several competitors also heading to Tufts on Sunday for the Tufts Stampede.

WOMEN'S DISTANCE - BU

  • Rookie Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) turned in the team's finest performance of the weekend at BU in the 3000-meter run. In her first time competing at that distance in college, she ran 9:57.90, third among Division III competitors at the meet and the fastest in the UAA this season. It was the fourth-fastest time in Division III this season, but ranked sixth because of BU's banked track.
  • Senior Maggie Hensel (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) lowered her personal best in the mile run for the second week in a row with a time of 5:10.50, five seconds faster than a week earlier. She was fourth among D3 runners at the meet.
  • Junior Maddie Dolins (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) ran an indoor 5K for the first time since her freshman season and posted a personal best of 17:45.58. It was eight seconds better than her previous best and second among D3 runners at the meet.
  • All three performances qualified the Judges for the New England and ECAC Division III championships.

WOMEN'S SPRINTS

  • Sophomore Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) won her heat and was 8th among D3 runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.12 seconds, while senior Tove Freeman (Oakham, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) posted a time of 1:00.40, 15th among divisional competitors. Both were personal bests and New England D3 qualifying marks. Burhans also qualified for ECACs.
  • In the 200, Burhans ran 26.54 seconds, Freeman was 27.63 and rookie Kanya Brown(Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) set a p.r. in 27.30 seconds.

WOMEN'S FIELD

  • Sophomore Jordin Carter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / R. Nelson Snyder) had personal bests at Tufts in the shot put (9.37 meters) and the 20-pound weight throw (10.32 meters).
