Chicago Takes Team Title at Chicagoland Indoor Championships

In a field filled with teams from all divisions of the NCAA, the University of Chicago women's track and field team emerged on top of the heap by winning the team title at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Friday.

The Maroons placed first out of 17 teams with 117 points scored. Lewis University was runner-up with 80 points.

UChicago got almost half its points from five event victories. The 4x400-meter relay stood out as a highlight as the quartet won by almost 11 seconds in a time of 3:53.97. The relay was comprised of junior Eleanor Kang, freshman Emma Koether, junior Michelle Dobbs and senior Mikaela Hammel. On the other end, sophomore Khia Kurtenback had the narrowest win of the bunch while racing the 5,000 meters in 17:20.86 – edging out the opposition by a mere 0.37 seconds.

Long distance races were dominated by the Maroons. In addition to Kurtenbach in the 5,000 meters, senior Brianna Hickey took the one mile (5:02.58) and Madeleine Horvath won the 3,000 meters (10:16.66). Dobbs added to her first-place showings with a time of 2:14.10 in the 800 meters.
