NYU Takes Eleventh on Staten Island

The New York University women's track & field team took part in the Metropolitan Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY, on Friday, February 3.

By compiling 14 points over seven events, NYU finished in 11th out of 17 teams. St. John's University took home the gold with 142.5 points overall.

Continuing her hot start to the season, senior Dana Placentra captured second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.20m. Junior Erini Farid and freshman Alaris Dayzie followed behind in seventh (2.60m) and eighth place (J2.60m), respectively.

On the track, Lara Dorsky finished the 5,000m in sixth after recording a career-best time of 18:17.94. She broke her previous best-time (19:14.61) by almost a minute. 

Senior Erica Bohdan paced the Violets in the 3,000m by placing 10th with a time of 10:50.53. Fellow classmates Hannah Haley and Justine Morris trailed close behind in 13th (personal-best 10:57.15) and 14th (11:06.29), respectively.

OTHER NOTABLES:

- Finishing hip-to-hip-to-hip in 13th, 14th and 15th place were sophomore Sidney Williams (5:31.75), junior Megan Davis (5:32.58) and senior Kassi Chrysanthopoulos (5:46.94).

- Freshman Tara Verma placed 24th in the 400m with a new personal-best time of 1:04.90. Junior Alexa Goldman came in 28th, clocking a time of 1:06.22.

- Back in field events, junior Brianna Yee cleared a distance of 10.14m in the triple jump to take 14th.
